Had the most magical experience at the firefly tour!!! Hafiz is an amazing host and his energy just radiates out. He explained so well how the fireflies work in Cherating mangroves and you can tell he loves his work.
It was a bit windy on the day which meant less fireflies came flying out but it didn’t make the experience any less enjoyable or magical. The fireflies look like lights on a Christmas tree in the mangroves. Would definitely recommend!!
We did the morning boat trip with Mizi, didn’t read any reviews or come with any particular expectations. It was very chill and the mangroves were dark and spooky on a grey day, no rubbish or anything to detract from the nature. Saw a sleeping Python and 3 Mangrove snakes, some lovely kingfishers and monitor lizards. Would have loved to see otters but maybe next time! Mizi was a great host and we all really enjoyed it 👍
Unable to take some photos during the fireflies watching but its best to experience it.
The tour guide Mr Hafiz was a genuine treat and was passionate about his works. And it was very magical to see fireflies in the works.
We really need this kind of convervative efforts to see the beauty of nature in works
A very good and exciting experience to watch fireflies. They gave you some info about how they conserve the fireflies there.
Rare experiece i would say. Imagine sitting on boat at night seeing lotsa firefly. U can see the reflection on da river when the fireflies illuminates. Seeing bunch of fireflies flying pass throuh you and some of em goes to your hand and keep blinking.
Thanks to Mr.Hafiz. Give us a very good memorable experience.
ps - if u going. sit at the front and take the boat with Mr. Hafiz. Great guy. Respect. Capture video is hard bcoz so dark. So spend every seconds watching fireflies with ur eyes. waste no time trying to take video or photos.Z
We did two activities here. The first day we did a kayaking tour. It cost 120myr for 3x ppl with 2x sharing and 1x solo kayaking. A bit misleading as they call it a tour, but it's essentially just kayak rental.
You are left to explore on your own for 1hr and then after you get someway up the river, the guide will find you and tell u to start going back to get to the pier at the finish point (2hrs total).
Water is dirty and smelly at the start but as you get away from town, this goes away. We saw turtles, kingfishers, monkeys, some birds I don't know the name of and enjoyed the nature of the mangroves.
Our 2nd activity was the firefly tour. After a short talk from Hafiz who is very enthusiastic about the firefly's we had to drive to another location (3 mins away) due to the high tide.
It's very hard to capture on the film but there are tons of fireflies and the 1hr tour goes past very quick. At first, I thought Hafiz was exaggerating when he said he can summon them to the boat but it was true!
Beautiful sights. If anything you want to come when the moon is not so full and bright so you can enjoy the light of the fireflies even more. There are crocodiles in this river so be careful, we heard some fisherman saying they saw some as we left for the tour.
The boats unfortunately release lots of fumes which detracts from the experience a bit.
